I've been enjoying a truly addictive new game, Puzzle Quest: Challenge of the Warlords. Whether you consider yourself a casual gamer, or a 'hardcore RPG' gamer, this game has the elements to intrigue, and captivate you. Imagine this; your favorite Role Playing character stats building and questing mixed together with a match three combat phase. Add to that, a mini game puzzle aspect every time you want to enrich your adventure by adding a new element such as capturing prisoners, or mounts... and you've got the best new genere game made! I hope to see a lot more from the developers of Puzzle Quest. This RPG/puzzle genere game is as involved as you want to make it, and has many levels of game play.
I haven't beaten this game yet, because I'm enjoying exploring creating my own weapons and magic items, training mounts, and learning new magic spells from the opponents I capture... not to mention seizing towns and building my own little empire! Until I feel ready to write a full review for this game, enjoy the following tips and helpful info I've gathered for you from the developers of this awesome game!
Here are some winning strategies for conquering the land of Puzzle Quest, straight from the game's creators -- Steve Fawkner and Tim "KGB" Sowden:
SPELL LEARNING TIPS
1. The best spells to learn from an enemy are those that have low Mana requirements to cast, since their casting cost increases for you when you learn them.
2. Spells that transform gems from one type to another are great spells to learn and are always useful. These allow you to generate 4-of-a-kinds when the board sets up in certain patterns. Examples include the Imp's Burn spell and the Frost Giant's Freeze spell.
3. If you are not playing a Druid and would like to get some cheap healing (and you don't want to waste a slot on a Troll Ring), learning Regeneration from the Troll is a good use of Blue Mana that might otherwise go to waste. It is not the cheapest spell to cast, but it doesn't end your turn (unless your enemy Resists Magic).
SKILL TIPS
1. Never spend your Leveling-up skill points on skills that cost 3+ points to increase. Buy these skills from the Temple instead.
2. Spend most of your Leveling-up skill points on skills that cost 1 point to increase. Specialization in a few skills only is the key.
3. The Cunning skill, which determines who goes first, is an important skill to increase, either via the Temple, or from Leveling-up. If monsters seem to be taking the first turn too often, it is time to increase your Cunning skill.
MOUNT TIPS
1. Get a Giant Rat mount. The Rat is easy to beat in the training game, and at a high Level it will allow you to avoid road monsters. It.adds a valuable Cunning bonus in combats, and it moves slowly so cities have time to generate monthly gold income.
2. When training a mount at high Levels (timer is 4 seconds or less), it is often best to just put on a Mirror Helm, Mirror Shield and Mirror Armor. This will allow you to damage the mount when you match Skulls, or when the mount matches Skulls against you.
