Well, it's been a while since I posted here (work's been uber busy!), but I had to drop by and let you all know about a really cool new game that I'm totally addicted to called Plants Vs. Zombies.

It's a tower defense game, with a twist... by a developer that's worked on Diablo 3! (Blizzard Entertainment games are the absolute best games available btw!)... the graphics are good, the music isn't annoying, and there are so many aspects to this game, I can't imagine anyone getting bored with it for quite a while.

The first hour is free, so go download it... honest, it's probably the BEST game I've played since I posted on this forum last (almost a year now!). Enjoy! Oh... and enjoy the awesome surprise at the end of the adventure mode... be prepared ... it's a refreshing change from other games out there!

I'm pretty sure (I will go check) that it's made by the same designers... the graphics are very similar, and the products & buildings are almost identical. Where Farm Frenzy was about utilizing the products of animals, this one's about using the products harvested, and processed from your farm. There's a ton of rewards to earn, and this game includes an interesting twist to the production method you must choose. I haven't received all the awards yet, but I have "developed" everything in my farm. While I find it a little frustrating that ALL of the production buildings are not available at the same time, I do appreciate the challenge that this presents. I'd call this a "spin off" of Farm Frenzy, as opposed to a sequel.

It's been a while since I've posted a review here... I've been busy with my graphics projects, new software, and client orders... a good thing for buisness, a bad thing for casual pc gaming! LOL I miss it!

Before I downloaded any of the cool new games that have come out recently, I wanted to check on Magic Farm... and found out that it's been updated by the developer. The updated version has additional adventures and quests, so of course I wanted it.

I opened my BigFish game manager, uninstalled the old version, and downloaded the new version from BFG. I went from version 1.14 to 1.23, so I know I have more to do now in this new version! According to the developer's site, new to this version is:

New Challenge for Farm2.

Well for farm2 and farm 3 replaced.

Barrel and box for farm4 replaced.

Bugs fixed.

Credits added.

Click on robin to change his mind

Flowers on farm4 are more profitable now.

Click on robin to trait him or right click to whistle to him.

Challenge quest on first farm changed to Exams quest.

New well on Shadow Glen Farm.

New exams for Hilo Island.

Challnge converted to Exams for Port Arrowhead.

After exam money and farm state restoring now.

4 "exams" total

Just when I think I'm going to be able to catch up on reviews, and completing the games I've already started... they go and release sequels that I just simply cannot resist! I'm downloading Build-A-Lot 2 right now, but here's a list of games you don't want to miss... games that I fell in love with when the first version came out!

Build a Lot 2

Dream Chronicles 2

Slingo Quest: Hawaii

... and... I didn't give Jane's Hotel a good review because it was released with bugs and a poor presentation, but that didn't stop it from becoming a favorite in the year 2007! Well, I'm going to remain open minded, and give Jane's Hotel 2 a try, and hope that they got it right this time. I liked the general premise of the game, so am looking forward to having some fun with it!

BigFish Games Manager updated

As if in answer to my only complaint about the BigFish game manager software, they've updated it to include the ability to delete the games you don't want from within it's main interface. In the last version, you didn't have this ability. Instead, you would have to find the game file, and then the UnInstall.exe... or go through your computer's "Add or Remove programs" function.

When I was downloading Coffee Rush (I've been waiting for this to come out!) this morning, the new BigFish game client was automatically included in the download. So, if you're looking forward to the updated version of the game manager, go ahead and download a new game to try out.

Don't worry... if you don't like the game, removing it from your computer after the one hour trial is now "one click easy"! :)

Edited to add: Oh! I just noticed... they finally gave us a desktop shortcut that will open the game manager! Used to be that you'd have to play a game and exit it to open the game manager... this is a HUGE help! woohoo!

One of the required fields a new member has to fill out to register here is to list their favorite casual pc game. I've noticed quite a few members listed Inspector Parker in that field, so I had to go check it out.

I have only ever played one other game with the same type of gameplay, and that's "A Series of Unfortunate Events" (ASoUE). I was surprised that it works exactly the same way as Inspector Parker, yet none of the members I've talked to had mentioned also playing ASoUE.

So, for all you Inspector Parker fans out there, if you haven't yet tried ASoUE, I've included a link to it here for you. Have fun with it! :)

Monster Mash tower defense game review and tips are up!

I never knew what tower defense games even where before I downloaded Garden Defense (http://addictivepcgames.com/game_2652_gard-defse_en_pc.html)....

I never knew what tower defense games even where before I downloaded Garden Defense. Although I enjoyed it, I never did buy it due to having to finish playing other games that I was writing reviews for.

Then my computer needed that reformat. :dontknow:
By the time I got my computer back in order, Monster Mash had come out, and it looked so different to me, I had to try it. Playing those first levels of Monster Mash did me in, I was hooked! I've posted the review, and many tips here, along with screenshots I think you'll enjoy LOL.

Enjoy, and don't hesitate to download the free trial of Monster Mash here.

Hidden Object game fans, this is your life! ;)

I just posted the complete history of the hidden object game genre... check it out here (http://www.pcgamesjunkie.com/showthread.php?t=922). For me,...

I just posted the complete history of the hidden object game genre... check it out here. For me, it was an eyeopener to exactly how addicted I really am to these games LOL. (And... shhh... hidden object games aren't even my favorite, but I own most of that list LOL!)

I have to take just a moment here to discuss the artwork that goes into these games. As a lifetime art student (classic through digital), I for one appreciate the sheer talent that is displayed throughout this game genre. It's amazing to me, the work that goes into these little downloadable applications! A part of me is just thrilled to see so many talented artists employed... so much for the starving artists huh? It must be a dream job for anyone that's trained their skills for this particular craft. I congratulate all the working artists who have graced my monitor with their talent and creativity!
:grouphug:

The first game was released by BigFish in November, 2005. They really are pioneers of the casual pc game genre, which is why I suppose I've chosen to work so closely with them. Not only do they create the most imaginative games, but the company is made up of some really great people. It's a pleasure working with such creative professionals.
After some major successes in 2006 with the hidden object games, the genre really took off in 2007, as you can see by the sheer amount of hidden object games released last year.

Good thing too... because fans of this type of game complete the newest release, and start salivating immediately for the next one! LOL I'm sure that many a hidden object addict is more than thankful to BigFish for offering these incredible artistic feats through their game club... I mean, what's $6.99 to an addict that needs their hidden object fix? Heck, people spend that on ONE drink when they go out!

:spy: <-- hidden obect sleuth LOL!

How much are comic books these days? Haha. If you've never experienced the thrill of the hunt that IS the hidden object game, give that list a look... I'm sure there's something that will capture your own imagination. Enjoy!

I've got to hand it to my Farm Frenzy friends... they all said that Build-a-Lot would be the perfectly addicting game to hold me over until another game as good as Farm Frenzy came out... and they were right! What a pleasant surprise it was to try this game today for the first time!

I never tried this game before now because the whole real estate angle didn't appeal to me. The bi-line for this game was "make money 'flipping' houses"... and "become a real estate mogul". Let me just tell you... I hated the process of buying a house. The paper work, the inspections, the permits... OMG!

I should know better! Build-a-lot is totally addicting! You buy supplies, you train workers, you draft blueprints, you build houses, repair them, upgrade them, sell them... believe me, it's all a lot easier than it sounds. :lol9:

I've tested a lot of games today... even deleted one from my computer because I couldn't stand it... so having found this game was SUPER! The graphics are crisp, clean and smooth... the tutorial is clear and precise, easy to follow... for something that could be tedious to be presented in a way that makes it seem easy? Kudos to the game developers on this one! You've restored my faith in quality casual pc games!

:love::computer::love:
If you've been hesitating to try this game, don't make the mistake of pre-judging this game like I did... download the one hour free trial... if you enjoy time management games this truly is one you MUST have in your collection. I can't wait to write a walk through on this one!

 Download

Wow. I can usually find something good in everything. Not so with Ice Cream Craze, I'm sorry to say.

This game feels like it's a first attempt at a casual PC game by a new programmer. I could only tolerate it for a few minutes, but in that time this is what I noticed...

There is no sound adjustment... the music is either on or off. Same goes for the sound effects.

There is no indication, what-so-ever that you've clicked on something in order to build a customers order. Nothing. You can't tell if the game has registered your clicks or not... and forget about chaining events in advance!

Perhaps I'm spoiled by similar games like Burger Shop and Stand O' Food... it's virtually the same game in a different setting... except for the fact that Burger Shop and Stand O Food were done right!
My opinion? If you're looking for this type of "build the customer's order" game, try the following instead... all of which I own, and play with much enjoyment. Don't even waste the bandwidth in downloading the free trial of Ice Cream Craze!

Try these instead:

This one is set up in the very same fashion, but actually works, and works well!

Set up just a little differently, the game mechanic is the same, just done with much better function!

What a...

What a wonderful surprise this game was for me! From the video I watched, it looked like you would be leading your villagers around to do their tasks, but this is actually a 'tower defense' type of game, much like Garden Defense.

This is a cute, comic book feeling kind of game that the kids are really going to get a kick out of, I think. The one thing I will say right off the bat is, don't hit the "Help" link from the main menu... unless you don't mind being thrown back out to your desktop! The link leads to a .html file that opens in your web browser. ;)

Unlike Garden Defense, you can't move any of your defense towers. Instead, you have to sell the towers at a loss if you want to place them differently, or need an additional tower closer to your town. If the monsters get through your towers, into your town, they eat your villagers... so don't let that happen! There's no gore if you do, just silly sad sounds ;)

Check out some of the really cute monsters in the attached pictures... I think that this game is more fun than Garden Defense, only because of the cute comic book style graphics! Will I buy this one? Probably... once the twins see this one I'm sure I'll have to! :twins: LOL

Here are the tips included in the "Help" file, so you don't have to leave the game for them lol.

Tips:

Build your towers so that their range covers the biggest possible stretch of the road.

Build the ground tower in places with a twist in the road to oppose the ground monsters. Build air towers in twists to combat flying monsters. Simple towers do better against bosses.

Towers don't shoot at monsters that are inside tunnels. Build more ground towers at the exit of the tunnel and don't forget to upgrade your towers.

Use the secret weapons available in some levels. These include the scarecrow, cannon and knight. See if you can find the others!

Build special towers closer to the road as their range is not as far. Keep in mind that the monsters need to fall into the range of the towers for them to be effective.

Build basic towers further back from the road as their range covers a larger area.

Slowing towers are most effective if they slow down the monsters that are within range of other towers.

Use the speed boost bonus to collect bonuses and build enough towers as fast as possible.

Build aura towers close enough to other towers so that they are covered by it's increased power.

Sell towers that are not effective and replace them with longer-range ones.

Upgrade, upgrade, upgrade!!!

First Impressions: Sparkle (they finally got the marble poppers right!)

Image: http://games.bigfishgames.com/en_sparkle/sparkle_80x80.jpg (http://addictivepcgames.com/game_2753_sparkle_en_pc.html)
I know what you're...

I know what you're thinking... another marble popper. Sigh. Even though the very first casual pc game I ever bought was the classic, Zuma Deluxe... I've got to be honest and tell you that besides the Luxor series, I haven't even bothered to play more than the free trial of marble popper games because they all seem so very similar to me.

I'm happy to report that Sparkle is different! Yes, it's got the same marble popper theory as Zuma and Luxor, BUT it's also given us the opportunity to win amulets that give us special powers when we're playing. (The first amulet I earned gave me a super fast launch which is constant, and doesn't wear out as long as I have that amulet on!) We have the ability to switch the amulet we're wearing according to what we think would be most helpful to beat the level we're on.

If you've ever played a marble popper game, I'm sure you can just imagine how helpful this can be! I've got to be honest with you... I've never completed a marble popper game because they just get way too hard! With Sparkle, though, with the addition of the magical amulets, I finally feel as though I may actually be able to complete a marble popper game! Maybe. I hope. I'm going to find out! LOL

I've also noticed that there are a LOT more bonuses made available ... more than I'm used to seeing in the other marble popper games. The graphics are beautiful, but not a drain on the 'ol RAM. ;) There's actually a story line involved, and you get to choose your path... something I'm not used to in this genere.

I'm definately buying this one. I love the amulet angle, it's like earning trophies in Farm Frenzy... you just can't stop until you've earned them all LOL! I'll have fun writing a full review on this one, so keep an eye out for it! For now, it's time for me to get back to earning more amulets!

Image: http://games.bigfishgames.com/en_luckys-rainbow/luckys-rainbow_80x80.jpg (http://addictivepcgames.com/game_2836_luckys-rainbow_en_pc.html)...

After playing this game for only a half hour, I can see why it could easily become addictive. There are a couple of twists on the "Match 3" gameplay here, along with puzzle games between levels.

The first, and most obvious difference in this Match 3 game is the way in which you match the board pieces. Instead of the 'Bejeweled' style of moving pieces on the board, you instead pick up a piece from OFF the board, and place it where ever you think it would do you the most good.

As you place pieces on the board, you shift the weight of the board, and it rotates accordingly. Pieces that start out as steel, turn to wood with the first match... wood is lighter than steel, so the board becomes lighter on the side you played the piece on, so it starts to rotate. This rotation of the board adds a completely new twist to your typical Match 3 game. There are bonus points and bonus tools awarded for each complete rotation of the board during any one level.

I stopped playing at the half hour mark because I had finished level one, and was presented a jigsaw puzzle to complete in order to get to the next level. Left click to move and place the puzzle piece, SPACEBAR to rotate the puzzle piece.

I'm not a fan of using my keyboard to play any casual pc game, and remember, I'm just getting over the flu, so I'm cranky... so I saved and exited my game to try again when I have more patience. Will I buy this game? Maybe... when I'm in the mood for another Match 3 game, it will definately be one of the first I look at again. I like the added brain tease of the rotating board!

Try Lucky's Rainbow for yourself. I'd say you get a pretty good feel for the game within your one hour free trial!

Ugh! The flu hit our house fast and HARD this week. Thank goodness for the strong immune system of CatHugger! She was the only one not stricken with the bug, so she got to play nursemaid to the three of us as we sniffled, sneezed and coughed through the week.

In the few hours that I was awake, I did manage to try out a new game... Magic Seeds. Read my tips and observations after a few hours of playing, and about halfway through finishing the game. If you missed the announcement of this new game, check it out here.

I'll post more reviews of the games I've chosen to buy when I'm done with this flu bug. :sorry9: to be absent this week! I hope you're all healthy, and avoiding this flu!

BigFish game manager saved the day!

I've been having a horrible week so far! I was forced to reformat my computer due to tech issues, and lost so much in the process that I really...

I've been having a horrible week so far! I was forced to reformat my computer due to tech issues, and lost so much in the process that I really wanted to cry. Contact information, receipts, browser favorites, you name it!
:pcguru:
Of course, all installed programs ... and GAMES ... were also lost. Yes, I back up the important stuff, of course I do! But... that doesn't mean that those new awards I earned in Farm Frenzy just before the tech issues started would be safe. Not to mention the new items I forged in Puzzle Quest, or the new levels achieved in Turbo Subs!
:ripped:
Now, in the grand scheme of things, the games and the progress I've made in them were really the least of my worries. So, on the second day of the rescue attempt (that's what I'm calling the re-installation of my software)... I finally decide that I need a well deserved break.
:arg:
Having only had about six hours of sleep since this nightmare started, I wasn't expecting much when I visited AddictivePCGames.com to download the games again. It was only a few minutes later that I realized this was going to be a week I'd like to wipe off the calendar all together... keyboard, mouse... all had software to reinstall... re-route wires and plug things in again... round and round I go.
:shock2:
In the midst of my own panic, feelings of complete and utter defeat, and oh yes, that good 'ol red headed temper... I decide to change security programs on top of everything else. I had been using a purchased version of Panda Internet Security Suite 2008. It had proven to be such a RAM hog, that I knew it would make this rescue a much longer process than it needs to be. When I'd start up the computer with Panda running, it would take at least 13 minutes to be able to do anything. When you're installing tons of programs, that can add up to HOURS of "just sitting here and waiting" time.
:catfight:
So, I decided to try the security software provided by my ISP. Little did I know that it would prevent me from downloading anything! LOL I found out quickly enough though, after trying to download the first game! Turns out, the security firewall changes the file type from .exe to .efw! No wonder it wouldn't work.
:dontknow:
A Google here, and a Google there, and I find out through some tech forums that this program just does that, and you have to change the file format to get your d/l's to work. Yeah, well... don't listen to that because that won't work either.
:eviltongue:
Anyway... throughout this entire process, I did learn some valuable things:

The BigFish game manager can be reinstalled rather easily.

HP computers offer a really easy way to reformat, and the process saves your data files. You wind up losing a lot less than you thought you would, although all of the executable files are gone, so you do need to reinstall.

If you reinstall your BFG game manager, the first thing you try to download should be a game you didn't already have. This has a magical effect; you get a freshly installed game manager... that then takes it upon itself to download all your games, using the information it finds due to the email address you input after accepting the terms of agreement. (Your game club email adress helps it find your purchase history, which tells it which games to install for you! I'm not really sure HOW it does it, I just know I'm really glad it does it!)

I have a LOT of games purchased for testing purposes... so I was shocked, and absolutely estatic to find that the game manager had done all the work of reloading itself! LOL I tested Farm Frenzy and it worked perfectly, with all my awards and info in tact!
Some games, like Puzzle Quest, keep character stat information in files outside the game directory... so I don't expect them to have my progress saved. I'll just have to back those up on a regular basis now, along with all the other files I now miss!
:coffee:
The bottom line here is that being a member of the BigFish Game Club, using their game manager, and enjoying the games we get through them has really shed some light and smiles on what would have otherwise been a very bleak and dreary week. Thank you, BFG!

I've been enjoying a truly addictive new game, Puzzle Quest: Challenge of the Warlords. Whether you consider yourself a casual gamer, or a 'hardcore RPG' gamer, this game has the elements to intrigue, and captivate you. Imagine this; your favorite Role Playing character stats building and questing mixed together with a match three combat phase. Add to that, a mini game puzzle aspect every time you want to enrich your adventure by adding a new element such as capturing prisoners, or mounts... and you've got the best new genere game made! I hope to see a lot more from the developers of Puzzle Quest. This RPG/puzzle genere game is as involved as you want to make it, and has many levels of game play.

As a rare treat, this RPG/Match 3 game has a Multi-player option! After you build up your character you can battle against an online opponent. In the single player game, you're playing against NPC's (non player characters in RPGspeak), or more literally... the computer. In single player mode, you're up against quest monsters, knights, and in the case of seiges... entire kingdoms. I'm looking forward to playing the multi-player mode, and find this option makes it a lot more enticing to create and build up different characters. Nice way to add "re-playability" to a casual game.

You get to choose from two male and two female avatars in each of the four character classes-Druid, Knight, Warrior and Wizard-to create, develop and customize your ultimate hero. Another aspect of the RPG genere included in Puzzle Quest is that you can "Build Your Own Empire" - Build an empire as you capture cities, build castles and gain a party of companions that will aid you in battle.

Yet another layer to this game is the third mode of play available... Instant Play. If you're short on time, or you simply don't feel like "questing", you can jump right into back to back battles. This is a great option that gives you the ability to level up your character stats, without going through the motions of the quests between battles. Leveling up should be so convienient in other RPG's! ;)

I mentioned "mini-games" earlier. If I were to compare the match 3 element of this game to the well known classic, "Bejewelled", you'll recognize the "bonus" levels. Remove all the pieces on the board in the usual 'match 3' fashion... none will be replaced. If you can figure out the puzzle, you capture your opponent so that you can learn their spells. Capturing a mount is handled the same way.

Another mini game presents itself when you try to forge the runes you collect throughout gameplay. To successfully forge an item, you have to play the match 3 game, with 'anvils' thrown into the mix randomly. More valuable and powerful forged items require you to destroy more anvils to accomplish the forging process. This part of the game reminds me of Diablo II, but instead of a "Horadric Cube", you're required to complete a challenging match 3 round.

:typing:

I haven't beaten this game yet, because I'm enjoying exploring creating my own weapons and magic items, training mounts, and learning new magic spells from the opponents I capture... not to mention seizing towns and building my own little empire!

Download a free one hour trial of Puzzle Quest today!

I just completed the new game *Pizza Chef (http://www.addictivepcgames.com/gameinfo.php?id=2559)*, and am excited to start it all over again so I can...

I just completed the new game Pizza Chef, and am excited to start it all over again so I can write up a review and walk through. It's a really different game that kept me interested to see the ending.

Pizza Chef combines the traditional match 3 dynamic with a Diner Dash type of "serve the customers" angle (could also be compared to the Cake Mania style of play)... as well as a hidden object mini game. Well, hidden object in the sence that the items you'll need are hidden in plain view LOL. The hidden item mini game also includes the "serve the customer" angle, so this game is truly a combo game which is what makes it the most challenging.

I'll post again when the review and walk through are complete. I anticipate becoming side tracked ... I was just testing a new stratagy when the game completed! LOL Here's to a fun filled weekend for all :)

Last I heard it cost $10 to upgrade and some people got a coupon for an optional restaurant, but I don't know if they're still doing that.

I've been keeping myself busy with the *PlayFirst (http://www.playfirst.com/r/AFPCGJ0001/)* games, *Diner Dash Hometown Hero - Gourmet...

I've been keeping myself busy with the PlayFirst games, Diner Dash Hometown Hero - Gourmet, Chocolatier 2... and I don't think I'll be able to resist their newest... Dress Shop Hop. I love being able to create multiplayer games to play with friends online!

The online community that PlayFirst has built is one of the main reasons I find their games so irrisistable... and that's saying a lot, considering I could get the same games (in most cases, Dress Shop Hop and Chocolatier 2 are an exception) through the BigFish Game Club for cosiderably less money. PlayFirst charges $19.95 for their games, as opposed to the $6.99 I pay through the game club.

The ability to make and play multiplayer games, and participate in the community of PlayFirst is worth the extra cost of these particular games, in my opinion. You get so much more, and varied, gameplay out of the game with the PlayFirst community!

In DDHH: Gourmet, there's the added activity of designing your own restaurants to play in, I'm really having fun with that too. Then of course, there's the benefit of being able to purchase additional levels (13 new levels in each pack)... what a great way to keep us interested in the games we love! I like designing a new diner, and then creating a multi-player game so that me and my friends can play in it.

I haven't played against a friend in Chocolatier 2 yet, but look forward to doing so. I'm still getting used to that game, but am having fun discovering all the secret recipies... there are so many different aspects to this game, it's very intriguing to play as a one player! LOL It should be very challenging to play with another person.

I also get to earn the awards from their site, which may sound silly, but this also adds that magical "replay-ability" to the games. If you're the type of person that likes to compete for the awards, you may want to check out PlayFirst's games. I'm glad I did!

I'm an official Diner Dash Hometown Hero
Restaurant Designer! Check out my first
attempt below, isn't it awesome?

I called it "Elegance Under The Sea".
I bet you wanna know how I did it, huh? I bet you even wanna make your own Diner Dash restaurants. I'm not flaunting a previously undiscovered restaurant that you just haven't found yet... I made this one. Then I played it! Best part? You can do it too!

More levels, more fun! GOURMET version of Diner Dash Hometown Hero
It's all due to an extra special version of DDHH, called:

Diner Dash®: Hometown Hero™ - Gourmet

I'm now affiliated with the company that's responsible for the best known (and loved) time management game ever! PlayFirst created Diner Dash, and this latest chapter in the series is really awesome! The "Gourmet" version has SO much more to offer, including online multiplayer action! You can compete with your friends online, and you can even design and play in your own diners like I did in the post above! Check out what this version has to offer:

On a visit to her hometown, Flo and her Grandma Florence take a stroll down memory lane. Bring five restaurants back to life as you help restore Flo's hometown. In the Gourmet Edition (PC only), enjoy special features such as dressing up your waiter and inviting friends to play in a diner you created! You can also buy items for your diner or purchase new downloadable restaurants.

50 New Story Mode Levels

6 new customers

Gourmet Edition only available on PC

500+ clothing & decor items (Gourmet Edition)

Play with friends in multiplayer (Gourmet Edition)

More Diner Dash

Get the dish on DinerDash.com!

NEW restaurants and items in the Diner Dash Boutique!

Diner Dash now available on Nintendo DS and Sony PSP!

Check out Diner Dash for your mobile phone here.

Yes, playing online with your friends in a diner that you created... well, that's cool! What's even cooler is dressing your waiter or waitress with custom clothes that you collect from the PlayFirst site. They're not expensive at all, and some are even free! Check out the outfit I got for free on my first visit to the DinerDash store:

I think the thing that really got me though, was the fact that PlayFirst has been releasing new restaurants pretty regularly... for $4.99 you can get up to 13 new levels (each) to play in a new restaurant, designed by the very same programmers that made the game! How awesome is that? Here's what some of them look like:

Winter Wonderland
Keep your customers warm and cozy in our Winter Wonderland restaurant. Enjoy 13 new levels!

Waterpark Madness Restaurant
Your customers will enjoy a splashing good time in the Waterpark diner! Play new Story, Endless and Multiplayer levels!

Crypt Café
Celebrate All Hallows' Eve in the Crypt Café and enjoy 13 new Story, Expert and Multiplayer levels!

Hometown Harvest Restaurant
Give thanks in our Harvest Restaurant! Enjoy exciting new levels and keep an eye out for a special visitor from Diner Dash: Restaurant Rescue!

Now... taking the whole "designing" your own restaurant thing a little further, there's the "bundle" packs they've put together for only 2.99 each... clothes for your waiters and decorations for your restaurant, all following a theme. This is like having a Diner Dash SIMS game, that you get to play in and trade with friends when you're done decorating! Look:

Tiki Time Bundle
Includes: Tropical Beach Scenery, Grass Top Gazebo, Bamboo counter, Anchor seating, Sea Shell path, Seaside counter, Tiki Mask, Bamboo path and seating, Palm Fronds path

Atlantic City Bundle
Tomorrow I have english class, we are reading a really boring book about Abagail Adams. And next year in english, we have to read about Eleanor Roosevelt. She has haunted me ever since I decided to pick her for my biography project in 5th grade! :wtongue:
Well anyways... I have this really cool avatar now, thanks to PCgamesjunkie! I picked out an avatar with tigers on it, and she added really cool christmas lights, and my user name on the side. Maybe if you want a cool one like she made me, you can ask her in the shoutbox, or send her a private message. You could even comment her blog! Replying to your comment on my last blog entrie PCgamesjunkie, I think the most confusing part about Farm Frenzy, is the map. I dont get how you know which level to pick next, and how you buy the iteams that you need to move onto the next level! I just think it is really confusing! :juggle:

Well, I guess that is it for today! I cant wait to go to school tomorrow!!! NOT!!!!!!!!

Some of you may have noticed a bit of a shake-up in the way the forums are arranged. Well, oops! LOL While I was organizing the games into more specific catagories, I accidentally moved ALL of them (over 200!) into the "Newest Releases" forum. Remember, the sticky threads at the top of this forum are ALWAYS the newest! After a week in this forum, I move them to the appropriate catagory. ;)

I'm slowly moving them into the correct catagory, it's just going to take me some time. Until I've finished, remember to use the search function if you're looking for anything specific.

Between organizing the forums, I did manage to get two new game reviews posted, both with TONS of screenshots!
:spy:
The sneak preview game Fairway Solitaire is reviewed in this thread, while the long awaited Mystery Case Files: Madame Fate review is here.

While doing my regular research to keep up on the gaming industry, I found a ton of BUZZ regarding: Game Journalist May Have Been Fired Over Negative Review

I've gotta just shake my head here. In a "bunny and flowers" world, reviewers are totally objective when giving us the scoop on whatever game is on their menu for the day. They're honest, they give us the good, the bad, and the ugly truths about a game's operation, graphics, playability, and if it applies, the story line.

In reality, however, there's a few things we have to remember;

"Honesty" is subjective. The "truth" in the case of a review is still only one person's opinion and that's the bottom line!

Motivation plays a part in the reviewer's opinion, whether they realize it or not, no matter how "objective" they try to be. Predjudice and preconceived notions about the game programmers and/or production company may play a part in the tone of any review.

Paid reviews are tainted by the exchange of money, regardless of any disclaimer that may, or may not be made by the publisher of said review.

Check out this video of the review that got this guy (allegedly) fired. (While it's been verified that the reporter was in fact fired, the reason for his termination has yet to be confirmed... thus my use of the word "allegedly".)

Gamespot is the site that this review was done for, but they're owned by CNET, who is reportedly responsible for the reviewer's being fired. The video above is now only found on YouTube, because the site it was made for had it up, but took it down shortly after the reviewer was fired.

Jeff Gerstmann, the reviewer that got fired, was the editorial director over at Gamespot. Apparently, CNET (they own Gamespot, remember?) has had issues with Jeff's "tone" for a while now.

Really? Wow. I dunno, CNET... but if I had an editorial director that had repeatedly "created tensions between their editorial content, the direction of the site, and the carefully crafted relationships that allowed Gamespot to act as an engine of revenue creation"... well I'd make sure that person didn't post anything to my site without it being approved first! Hello? CNET? Is anyone home?

Smells like backpeddling to me. Sounds like their advertiser got a little miffed at a bad review, so they pulled their future advertising plans. Sounds like someone had to be used as an example for the rest of the employees on how things are to happen from now on... I guess their definition of 'review' is just different than mine.

Yep, I write reviews of the casual PC games I play. Yes, I also happen to be an affiliate for the company that sells these games. I don't candy coat my reviews, though. I tell it like it is, as a consumer of the product myself.

My opinions may not always be popular, but they're mine. There are a few reviews I've posted to this site that actually recommend not even wasting your time downloading for the free trial. I know my credibility is on the line, so I don't just say everything is great, go buy it! LOL

My idea for this site was that there would be my reviews, and then there would be reviews posted by our members that also played the game, at least long enough to get a good understanding of how it works. (A lot of you are shy and haven't posted yet, but I hope you will!) :thanks::lol9:

The reason I want to offer reviews by a few different people is because we all have different experiences with the games we play. Just like movie critics... we're just stating our opinions. You eventually find a reviewer that you agree with for the most part, and you learn to trust them, and heed their reviews when they come out.

With news of this recent Gamespot slash CNET debacle, I wonder... who can we trust?

I may start a discussion thread on this... if I get any comments here first. I saw a few of you registering this weekend, and am hoping you post so we can all get to know you! In the meantime, I have a really early morning to deal with (it's snowing, which means hubby has to go in a few hours early, rise and shine at 4am!), so I'll see what I can do about getting a discussion started tomorrow.
g'night, gamers!
:grouphug:

Farm Frenzy is just the cutest game! I'm going to be busy playing it and taking screen shots for an official site review, but in the meantime, I wanted to make sure you all got the chance to download it before it becomes available to the general public!
:girl9:That's one of the perks of running a review site... I get to see the newest games before they're available for sale! Anyway, there are so many cute surprises and actual challenges in this one, I'm excited about playing it! LOL

I can't even think of a game that's similar to this one to compare it to for you, so go ahead... you know you can't resist, just check it out!

What'cha think? I've always wanted a "home" page that offered the latest news, recent posts, arcade standings, latest blogs... well, now we have it! Yay!
:elefant:
I'll probably be adding stuff, and moving things around, but for now it's good to go. I have a couple of d/l games I want to try before I have to get ready to go out tonight. Hmm... maybe I can talk hubby into including dinner out into our plans! LOL

I went through the game archives over at AddictivePCgames.com, and posted all the winter time fun! There are several games that include the Christmas holiday theme, and all of them feature seasonal music.

As the Christmas season starts for 2007, I wanted to feature last years games too. Today's download is the first of what I'm sure will be many holiday games!

First, today's game:
Christmasville

Last year's holiday games:
Mahjong Holidays
Jingle Ball
Jewel Match - Winter Wonderland
Holiday Gift
Holiday Bonus
Christmas Tale
Chicken Invaders 3 Christmas Edition

As an added treat, I also installed some Christmas games in our very own arcade for our registered members to enjoy! I see many holiday tournaments about to happen so why not register for free and join us in the holiday stress relieving fun!

PCGJ Arcade holiday fun includes:
Fat Santa
Christmas Shooting Gallery
Click Santa
Christmas Package
Christmas Attack
Crazy Sleigh
Elroy Learns To Fly
Comet Sleigh

Attack of the Sprouts - Defend your Christmas dinner from the attacking sprouts at all cost. Lemme just add a note here... this is probably the hardest I've laughed in a while. This game is hilarious! LOL Remember the weird lil rat like potatoe dude that used to sing the Quizno's commercial? I swear this is him, disguised as a sprout! OMG, this is a MUST play! LOL

:ranger: This is my normal morning routine. Get up, make coffee, check the 'puter for email news and posts. I usually have about 45 minutes from the time I sit down with a cup of coffee, till I have to wake up the troops. That 45 minutes is "ME" time.

This morning, I noticed that the download for today is another fashion based diner dash type game called Fashion Craze. I think I'll take a break from working on the site, to play this one for a little while today.

Living with two pre-teen girls, it's kind of an obligation to check out all the "fashion" based games. LOL I'm sure it will be fun, and I'm sure they'll see it and want to d/l it themselves shortly afterwards. That's ok though, that's why we're in the Game Club!

I have some other things to do today, like add graphics I made a while ago to the GuestbookGlitter site. I also have a couple of folders worth of screenshots here from games I've played. I'll have to post them here for you all as soon as I can organize them in some way.

There are quite a few Madame Fate spoiler, helper screen shots  I had fun last night checking on my Virtual Villagers. I posted some funny screen shots of them, too. They're such good lil villagers! LOL

I'd better get started... I want to add some awards to the site too! Cathugger and Lil Wench did so much here on the site this past weekend, I want to surprise them with some goodies!

My name is Lil Wench! I dont know about you, but I am very excited about Christmas! I don't really care about the presents, or anything like that, but I do like seeing all of the lights on Christmas trees, and people's houses! It is awesome! Not that I dont like getting presents! LOL. The only thing that I want SO FAR is the Sims Cast Away for Play Station 2. It looks really fun! Another thing that I possibly might want is decorations for my room, or furniture! I think I am going to go for a new look, but I dont know what it is yet. If you have any cool ideas for me tell me, and i will deffinitely get back to you!:xmas_emot:
A big thing that you need to know about me is that I have a twin sister. We are like two peas in a pod! Except I hate peas... so scratch that! We fight about the stupidest things, it gets really annoying sometimes. Hopefully when we get older we will look back on it and laugh, or maybe not. Well we have already planned out our future! We are going to live together and have cats and dogs. She is going to be a dentist, (we decided this when she pulled out my very stubborn baby tooth!) and I am going to be a lawyer. I decided that I am not going to get married, and the only kids that I am going to have are cats or dogs! I don't want to go through the whole process of giving birth if you know what I mean!
In my spare time I like to do a lot of things. Of course I am always on PCGJ posting about games that I am currently addicted to, or just playing some arcade games! I also love to read. My sister HATES reading. I dont understand why though! In the summer we would always go to the park up the road, but now we cant because it was torn down. The elementary school is being re-done, and so is the park. So now basically we stay home and find something to do! :swinging:
I have two cats. They are both macral tabbys, but one is also part siamese. He has a big, but ADORABLE nose. The other one has dark black fur, and is softer than a bunny. He is so adorable also! Recently, this cat that we think lives up the road keeps visiting us. He meows at the back door, and we let him in. He doesnt get along with our cats though lol. We dont know if he is a boy or a girl, but I just usually say that it is a gurl so yea. We named her Coacoa. I love her so much! She is my sista from anotha mista!

11/26/07
Today we are going to finish up the tree hopefully. It looks kinda small to me though, we will have to fix that. I had so much homework today. Me and my firends need to protest against homework! OMG i got up at 6:00 in the morning today! That is really good for me seeing as I usually sleep in until 7:30!
I hate social studies! I think it is pointless. Do you:questionmark: Tell me what you think. Well I guess I should get back to homework now.:nana: Tata for now!
P.S. Please rate my blog!

I've been working on adding some really cool features to this site for over a week now. The one I'm most excited about is this... BLOGS!

What's a blog?
Well here's what Wiki has to say. Simply put, it's an online diary, or journal. You can easily share your thoughts and observations, and readers can post comments.

Consider your blog here as your own personal space to talk about your favorite casual pc games, your arcade addiction, or even your pets, school, work and play! The only thing I ask is that you not post inappropriate materials.

Never post (write) about your personal information. (your full name, your address, phone number, school name, etc.) Don't use your friend's full names, they deserve their privacy too! You can write about all these things without being very specific. Stay safe!

Don't post pictures of yourself that you wouldn't want to show your parents. :eviltongue:

Ask me for help in setting up your blog, if you're confused or lost. You can choose to only allow your "buddies" to view it if you don't want strangers reading it!

I hope you all enjoy the features I'm adding, I myself enjoy blogging, and am happy to have the ability to do so right here on PCGJ! Now I have somewhere to write about all my casual pc game addictions! :lol9:
